History of Homeopathy
‘Disease is born of like things, and by the attack of like things people are healed’ – Hippocrates
These principles were re-discovered over 200 years ago by German physician Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) who developed them into the science that he called Homeopathy.
Homeopathy is a two hundred year old specific, scientific system of health care that is based on the law of “Similia Similibus Curantur” (let the likes be cured by likes) that stresses on fortifying the innate defense capabilities of the self, in overpowering and overcoming disease.
Homeopathy views ‘dis’-ease as an expression of the body’s struggling healing power that is manifested as ‘symptom’ and are an expression of the organism’s effort to heal itself.
The word homeopathy was derived from the Greek word Homeos meaning similar and Pathos means suffering.
Homeopathy is the process of gently yet swiftly stimulating the vital force that permeates all living things, into bringing back order. It enhances your level of health. Thus not only does your current condition disappear, you actually feel positively healthy within. This is possible as it is individually tailored to you. Homeopathy is effective in both acute and chronic diseases.
Homeopathy was introduced to North America in 1826 and quickly gained popularity in Canada and the United States.
Homeopathy was regulated in Upper Canada from 1859 to 1970 where one out of every six physicians was a homeopath. On January 1890 the Toronto Homeopathic Hospital opened and in 1902 its name was changed to Grace Hospital. On March 25th, 1926 it merged with Toronto Western Hospital and lost its homeopathic status.
It is safe, gentle and complementary with all other therapies. It is the second most widely used system of medicine in the world and is available in most countries.
